-It's always a birdie fast at the Waste Management Phoenix Open so if you wanna win, knocking down the flagstick is a must and I wanna give you an idea of how to be more accurate with your irons. Make sure that that angle of the trail wrist doesn't change through the shot. So what I want you to do is I want you to hit some shots with just the right hand or the trail hand. What will happen is you're gonna set that wrist and I want you to maintain that wrist as you come down through that strike just like that. Once you start to get comfortable keeping that wrist position like that, you're gonna compress the ball, you're gonna strike it solidly and it's gonna go where you're looking which by the way is a really good idea. Let's let that ball go where we're looking, so I'm gonna focus on keeping that wrist position the exact same, strike it just like that. Alright, Martin. I got my irons going where they're needed to go. What have you got? -Thanks, Michael. Sometimes when the pressure is at its greatest just finding the green can be tough, let alone knocking down the flag. Nowhere is that pressure greater than the 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale. We know it. We've seen it. They go berserk out there. This would be my suggestion to you. You cannot be over the ball thinking about what you're doing under high pressure. Have a sort of a good pre-shot routine. My pre-shot routine, I have a commitment lying there. If I am this side of the line I can be switched on mentally. I can be thinking about what I'm doing. I'll take my practice swings. I'll get my swing thoughts back here. Deep breath, one side go across that line. It's time to go. No conscious thinking so this is my sort of think box. Over here is my play-my-go box, so here we go. I've got this target set at 165 so it's pretty similar to the 16th hole there in Phoenix. Here we go. I've got my thought, I've taken my swing, I've got my feel. Okay. In I go. I'm now in the play box. So not too much thought. Yes, the crowd is going wild. I haven't even pulled the trigger yet, but here we go. Can I do it? Come on. You little beauty. I'm gonna have to go back to playing for a living. Anyway that's how you deal with pressure. So thanks for joining us on GolfChannel.com for the best in golf instruction. With Michael's tip for sticking it close and my drill for playing under pressure, you're sure to become better with the irons. I'm maybe the first to discuss if I could learn a thing or two as well.
