-Thanks for stopping by at Golfchannel.com. White Watson and Charlie Rymer. The Sony Open in Hawaii, the first full-field event of 2012, and one of the early leaders coming out of a morning way. One of the better scores of the day, Graham DeLaet with a 63, young man from Canada. Had a major medical last year and really didn't get a chance to play a whole lot of golf, Charlie. Gotta go back to 2010 to find some meaningful starts on the-- but that's a meaningful start right there. A 63 on day one and just 27 putts. -Yeah. This was a heck of a round for Graham but really a dream start of the 2012 season. 2010 was his rookie year, finished a hundred on the money list only 2 starts on the PGA Tour in 2011, has the back injury. He's been out for so long but he has to have some question in his mind. "Is my back okay? Can I still go out and play this game?" I mean, those sort of thoughts of the tense he'd creeping in when you're playing the PGA Tour, especially when you're just starting a career. So for him to go out and put up a round like this, I think it's very very meaningful for Graham DeLaet. -A lot of other players though, looming large in that rearview mirror. As he went out, he knows that guys like K.J. Choi are out there. Webb Simpson is out there, Steve Stricker who won last week in Hawaii is still out there. When you've had that much time off, due to injury, what does it take mentally to get back to tournament level in terms of your focus? -Well, it's a cliche but I can tell you that you literally can't think about any of that and he's got 26 tournaments this season and make a little over $650,000 to keep his card and have his job next season. He can't think about that, I mean, he just gotta go on one whole, one round, one week at a time. I see a smile. You journalist don't believe that and you think, oh yeah you're not saying anything but I'm telling you folks, you gotta keep it as simple as you possibly can-- -[unk], get one shot and it's-- -yeah it's boring and it's boring when players talk about it but that's how they have to think about it. Literally stay in the present with all the math, sort of calm down of its own. But he knows he's got the 26 terms which is a full season and he goes out and plays the kind of golf that he's capable of playing. The numbers are gonna take care of themselves. -Good start for the young man from Canada. For continuing coverage, keep it right here at Golfchannel.com with Charlie Rymer, I'm Whit Watson. Thanks for stopping by.
