-Hi. I'm Michael Breed, host of The Golf Fix. Today's Facebook question comes from Chris Gilligan. "How do I stop hitting the ball fat?" Well, Chris, this is a very popular question and it's really a lot easier than you think. What you're gonna do is you're gonna to tee a ball up. Normally, say with a 6-iron which is what I would have, I would have that in the middle of my stance. What I'm gonna do is I'm gonna put that ball outside of my lead foot here. So, it's probably about one club head outside of my foot. And what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna teach myself to hit this ball slowly. As I start to do this drill, what's gonna happen is you're gonna start transferring your weight. The reason why you're hitting the ball fat is likely because, when you're coming through this, your body weight is headed in a backwards direction, away from the hole and then you're trying to hit up on it, try to get it up into the air. What I want you to do is I want you to tee that ball up in the air so we don't feel like we've gotta do something special. All we've gotta do is hit it. And in order for me to hit it, I've gotta let my upper body move into that hit and get that way. Once you've done that drill a couple of times, then what I want you to do is I want you to tee the ball up again, place the ball where you would normally have that 6-iron. So, for me, that's just a little bit slightly forward of center. And then, I'm gonna create the exact same feel as if that ball was well-forward in my stance. And what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna hit that ball without hitting the ground. And that's how you're gonna get out of hitting that fat. The other thing you could do is you can watch me, Michael Breed, every Monday night at 7 p.m. It's called the Golf Fix. We're here to help your game.
