-Hi, I'm Michael Breed, host of The Golf Fix. One of the ways we're helping you out is by answering your e-mails, but in order for you to get better, you gotta send those e-mails to us. This question is coming to us from Facebook, Kevin Smith in Taunton, Mass. Can you please explain why I can hit my 44-1/2 inch driver better than my 46-1/2 inch one? Any drills for swinging a longer driver? Yeah. There's a couple of different reasons why you're gonna hit the shorter driver better, and that is because you're gonna hit it in the center of the face. You could see right here on the center of my face, I've got a lot of tee marks right there. That's because I'm getting it in the center of the face of the club. Once you get that longer club, you've gotta make that adjustment. The other thing is that that is gonna flatten your plane. It's gonna [unk]; it's gonna become heavier, so it weighs completely differently than your 44-1/2 inch driver. The long and short of it is this, don't play your 46-1/2 inch driver. Stick with the 44-1/2. That's what I used, the 44-1/2. And what I find is, is that my shot shape is more consistent. My center distance hit is much better, and I'm shooting lower scores. Isn't that fun? Now, I know you want a drill. So let me give you a drill here. And it's a pretty simple one. What you're gonna do is you're just gonna set up a couple of tees here, and you set them into the match just like this and then you're gonna tee the ball up. You can do this with your 46-1/2, but I think what you're gonna find is you're gonna struggle. What I want you to do is I want you to just get used to swinging this club through that gait in hitting the ball. With your 46-1/2 inch driver, what you're gonna need to do to become successful with that is you're gonna have to swing slower, because as you get a longer club, you have to swing slower in order to control that centeredness of hit, but I go back to another thing. If you're gonna hit the 44-1/2 inch better, then just stick with that thing and bail in the 46. This drill will still help you by the way. So what you're gonna do is you're gonna set up and you're gonna find the rhythm and the tempo that's gonna allow you to get that club. Through that gait, keep those 2 tees in place and have that other ball while it's still going down the fairway. Oh, we like that one a lot, didn't we? Yeah, 265, but that's in the air. It went 290, and it was into the wind even. Alright. You wanna help your game, too? Stay right here on the GolfChannel.com/TheGolfFix. A lot of different tips to help with other parts of your game, not just with the driver. And then the other thing you could do, you can watch me, Michael Breed, every Monday night 7 and 10 PM Eastern, and it's called The Golf Fix, and guess what? It's about you and your game.
