Hi, I'm Michael Breed, host of the Golf Fix. Our question, it's...

Hi, I'm Michael Breed, host of the Golf Fix. Our question, it's a Facebook question, comes from Trampus Butler. "I'm a scratch golfer, often shooting 3 or 4 under on my home course, but when I go to a bigger course, I tend to shoot even to 4 over. Can you give any insight on the instructional or mental aspect of that?" Yeah, Trampus, you know what, there's a couple things that I think. First of all, you know, in order for you to improve that tournament play or playing on those bigger golf courses, you just have to keep doing it, and you'll work through that-- that block that says you can't do it. The other thing that you can do to assist yourself is when you're playing at your home course, you're so used to hitting the same club every single time. You just stand up there, you hit a driver, and it comes to rest, you got a 9-iron, and you're used to hitting that 9-iron and you're used to what it feels like and you know what the lie is gonna be like and all that. This is what I would suggest. You go to a bigger golf course, you've got longer clubs into the greens, okay? That's just gonna happen as you get longer and longer in the yardage of the course that you're playing, so this is what I would suggest. Tee off with a 4-iron and what you're gonna do by teeing off with a 4-iron is you're gonna-- first of all, you're gonna hit more long irons, okay? You're gonna hit 4-iron on every tee, you're gonna get very comfortable with hitting with a 4-iron, or maybe even hitting a hybrid, or something like that. Anything but a 3-wood or a driver, 'cause what you wanna do is you wanna lengthen the shots that you have into the green. Because you're used to hitting a 9-iron into a green, but if on that same hole, all of a sudden, you had to hit a 4-iron into the green, now the green is smaller, now the lie is totally different, now you're uncomfortable and that's what it's like when you play in those-- in those tournament rounds or when you're playing those bigger golf courses, so what I would suggest to you is tee off with your hybrid or 4-iron and get used to hitting that a lot and then get used to also having longer shots into the greens and you'll play those other courses much, much better. Another thing that will help you play those other courses better? Stay right here. Golfchannel.com, the best instruction. We'll help you play the best golf that you can possibly play. And the other thing, watch us, every Monday night, the Golf Fix, 7 and 10 p.m. eastern on Monday nights. We're here designed to help you play better golf, so you've gotta do your part and watch us.
