Creator of the Wendy's 3 Tour Challenge, Terry Jastrow talks about the how they leveled the playing field for the three tour event.

-On December 13, watch your favorite stars go head to
head in a battle of the tours for one of
golf's most successful charity events. -The birth of the Wendy's
Three Tour Challenge occurred in the kitchen of Jack and
Barbara Niklaus' home in North Palm Beach. I was a
partner with Jack in Jack Niklaus Productions and along with
Greg Mann and a colleague of our, Kim [unk], we
were sorting out how we could create a level playing
ground between competition of PGA Tour players and at the
time senior tour players 'cause Jack was about to turn
50. And so we were trying to sort out how
we could establish a competition between the PGA Tour and
the senior tour. And Barbara Niklaus who was just sort
of cleaning up for dinner came along and said, Guys,
don't forget the girls. 'Cause you're talking about a lot
of competitions with all these boring guys, how about adding
women into the mix?" And so we thought, well then
hold on. If we had the PGA Tour and the
Senior Tour and the LPGA, that for sure would be
the first time that great players from each of the
three tours were playing head to head competition. And there
ensue the kind of the debate and discussion about how
do we create a level playing ground. Could we eliminate
the component of strength and distance so that Nancy Lopez
would be hitting the 7-iron and Fred Couples would be
hitting the 7-iron and Jack Niklaus would be just getting
the 7-iron? And so we sorted it out with Jack
that we thought we could do it in theory. And
then once you have the idea of the concept, there's
a format, then of course you need to go and
get the Tours signed to you. And the truth is,
the way that this got finally sanctioned was that Charlie
Mechem was the Commissioner of the LPGA and Deane Beman
said one of his great dreams was to create the
World Golf [unk] Hall of Fame. And they needed a
female component that [unk] need approval. So Deane Beman went
to Charlie Mecham, commissioner of the LPGA, and said, "We
want you to support and become a part of the
world golf [unk]" and Charlie Mecham said, "We'll support that
if you sanction the Wendy's Three Tour Challenge and that's
how it came to be. -On December 13th, one of
golf's most successful charity events returns. Celebrating it's 20th Anniversary.
Over the years, the Wendy's Three Tour Challenge has raised
over $40 million for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.
