-From the Morning Drive studios for GolfChannel.com, I'm Gary Williams with Erik Kuselias. All right, 4's were wild at Pebble Beach. It's usually, as you're not looking for 4's when the dealers has handed them out. Well, his fourth at Pebble Beach, his 40th win on the PGA Tour. He has four majors. You can keep going on and on and on and on. 40 wins on the PGA Tour is an extraordinary benchmark. Four major championships for Phil. What is more impressive in your mind? -I'm going to take the 40 PGA Tour wins. It puts him inside the top ten all-time no matter what the era is and you just have to put this in perspective. To catch Phil, you could be the winningest guy tied for the winningest guy on tour last year. You would have to do that for 20 straight years and you still wouldn't catch Phil. Nobody won more than twice last year. So, if you won twice each year for 20 years or two decades, you still wouldn't be ahead of him. -Uh-huh. -You'd only be tied with him. That is an incredible statistic to me. It's close. -Yeah. -I'll agree with that. But, I'll take the 40 wins because of what it means when you look historically and you look at a young guy. If you were explaining it to a young guy what he need to do to get to 40, he'd say, "I think I'd rather try to get four majors rather than the 40 wins." -Yeah, you're-- it's a number that I don't know if we'll see that number again from anybody of this generation maybe for quite sometime. When I look at it, there's the same number of guys who were ahead of him with respect to total wins as there are and with respect to more majors in the modern era. -Uh-huh. -And, here's the difference. On the PGA Tour, you have many more opportunities now than the guys did 20, 30, 40 or 50 years ago. You play around the clock and around the calendar. I'm not-- I'm not disparaging the 40. To me, there's just the same number of guys who have won in the modern era as-- as far as more-- five or more all the way up to Nicklaus at 18th and with that, all in to the majors. And, we talked about the majors all the time. Guys of the last generation, the generation before them, they didn't understand it. They just went out and play. They knew they were big tournaments. It's around the clock coverage of these things. -I might want to have four majors-- -Yeah. -over 40 wins. But, if I said to Rory McIlroy right now, you can-- you know, what do you think of a better chance to do? What's an easier accomplishment? Winning four majors you got to go in 40 times in the PGA Tour. But, I'll tell you if I was a young Rory McIlroy, I'd say-- I think I got a better chance to four majors. 40 just seems-- it just sounds so daunt taking uphill when you put it in perspective. -It's true. It's true but the other thing you would ask him, what do yo want more? He'd say the majors. -I agree. -And if you want something more, that makes it really hard to get. -Well, I probably would rather win a major than win three-times in the PGA Tour this year. Four guys won the majors last year. Nobody won three-times in the PGA Tour. I'd rather won-- -No, that's not true. -I'd rather won a major. -Of course, Tiger's average about seven wins a year for the last ten years. So, what we do every single day? Debate it? Somebody is right. Somebody is wrong. Who knows? We may both be right. 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Eastern right here on Morning Drive.
