Hi, Jim Williams here. I've got a great drill for those of you that struggle with standing up on the downswing or moving into the golf ball. We call this early extension. What that means is, is that when you start in posture and you stand up or move into the golf ball on the downswing, a lot of things bad can happen. You can get over the top. You can scoop, cast at impact. There's so many things that go wrong. So it looks something like this. You stand like this and you stand up and the ball stays on the ground. You might scoop it and hit a grounder. Alright, this is a real problem for most of you. So here's the drill and this is what's gonna help you. When you take your stance, what I want you to do is raise your foot heel like this, maybe raise it about a ball off the ground. Take your stance and do your backswing. Now I've got a little lob wedge here. Just start with a half shot so you can feel this. Don't try this drill with a driver right away. Take a short club. Take it to the top and now the first move you wanna make is to plant your heel down on the ground. And when you do that, your hips are gonna start to rotate and your chest is gonna stay down. This is gonna help you hit the ball first and stay down properly. So it's gonna look something like this. The heels are gonna start up and we'll go up, plant the heel and go forward. Now if you look, I've still got some side bend and some angle and my weight is on my heel. That's what I'm looking for. I don't wanna finish standing up like this. So if you feel like you stand up and you can't stay over the ball, try this little drill. Plant your heel to start the downswing. It'll help you stay down and through the shot and should make you a lot more consistent. Good luck.
