Hi, I'm Annika Sorenstam and I'm here at my academy.
Here I have an exercise. It's a mental exercise to
help you commit to a golf shot. First of all,
I got 2 clubs in my hand. I'm just gonna
put down this extra club and I'm gonna divide my
little pre-shot routine into 2 parts. This part is what
I call the thinking box. This part is what I
called the play box. So obviously what you do in
the think box, you think. This is when you think
about the shot. Should I hit a 7-iron? Should I
hit an 8-iron? Is the wind in my face? Do
I have an uphill lie? Again, this is where you
think about the shot. Once you've decided on the shot,
you take your practice routine, normally you do a little
practice swing. You stand behind the ball. You visualize the
shot that you were just thinking about. Once you made
up your mind, you pick a target, then I step
over what I call this imaginary line into my play
box. I'll take a little intermediate spot. And here in
the play box is where I play. This is not
where you think "maybe I should change the club" or
"the wind just picked, I gotta grip a little firmer.
I gotta put the ball through the back." This is
actually where you play, so take your position from the
think box into the play box and all you do
here is play. I guarantee you, if you can handle
this mental part of the game where you commit to
a shot, your scores are gonna go lower.
