-Golf Central Special. -Hi, there. It's Todd Lewis with GolfChannel.com. [unk] Jason Sobel. Tiger Woods will not be at [unk] competing in the 2011 Open Championship. He made that announcement via his website on Tuesday. And, here's that Tiger had to say: "Unfortunately, I've been advised that I should not play in the British Open. As I stated at the AT&T National, I am only gonna come back when I'm 100% ready. I do not want to risk further injury - that is different from me but I'm being smarter this time. I'm very disappointed and wanted to express my regrets to the British Open fans. In hindsight, I probably shouldn't have competed at the Players. It's a big event and I wanted to be there to support the tour. I've got to learn from what I did there and do it right this time and not come back until I'm ready. I think my years are still ahead of me and I'm very confident and optimistic about the future." What's also said on his website that he personally contacted Peter Dawson who is the chief executive of the R&A to explain why he is unable to play. Not shocking news. He kind of hinted about this last week at the AT&T National. What is your reaction? -Well, I think the first reaction, Todd, is that we shouldn't be surprised by this. As Tiger motioned last Tuesday AT&T National pre-tournament press conference, he said he would only come back if and when he was 100% ready to go. And, you couldn't believe that was gonna only take a week. He's been out now - since playing those 9 holes at the Players Championship in mid May so, it's been awhile and now, I think the big question is: When is he going to return? Tiger's next scheduled event would be the WGC Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone. One week after that would be the PGA Championship. That's in August, next month. You've got to wonder whether he's gonna be ready for that. If he's not, I don't know if he's gonna return for the rest of the season [unk]. -Yeah. That is a very good point to bring up. And by the way, this is just the second time that Tiger has missed the Open Championship since 1995. The other time, coming in 2008 when he had reconstructive surgery on his left knee. Tiger's injury list kinda looks like that of a running back. We're gonna show you all the injuries that he has gone through dating back to- -[unk]. -When he was young in 1994 but probably, the most glaring happening in 2008 when he had first the scope on his knee then trying to rehab. He had stress fractures. Went on to win the US Open in Torrey Pines and shutting down the rest of the year, having reconstructive surgery on his ACL and he also repaired cartilage damage [unk] - He's 35 years old and his body - the lower half of his body has been through a lot and of course now, he's gonna be missing the Open Championship after missing the US Open in June. I mean, you mentioned where does he go forward and I'm not [unk] - not talking about just this year. Where does he go forth throughout of his career? Are injuries you think gonna be plaguing him? -I don't know. I'm not his doctor. I haven't seen the X-rays. I don't know exactly what's going on with Tiger Woods. I think for any of us, to go out and say, this is gonna hamper him for the remainder of his career, I think is a little bit flighty because we just don't know what impact this injury will have that as, you know, just like the injuries that he's had in the past. What I'm wondering about though is he says he won't come back until he's 100%. Is any athlete out there ever 100%? I just can't imagine that there's a point in the near future where Tiger Woods will be a 100% - will be completely free of injury. You can go up and down the driving range at any golf tournament on the PGA Tour, Todd, and I don't know you'll find 5 guys who are a 100% right now. -That's a good point as well. And, Tiger said, a week ago, last Tuesday at the AT&T National, he is not hitting balls. The only thing he's doing is [unk] right now. Big news coming out today that he is indeed not ready for the Open Championship. For Jason Sobel, I'm Todd Lewis. We thank you for clicking on the GolfChannel.com. We'll see you.
