FURYK TO PLAY NEW STRATA: Golf ball industry players continue to jockey for position with endorsements. Jim Furyk will play the new Strata golf ball this season, says Spalding Sports Worldwide, maker of the popular brand. Other pros making the switch are Steve Pate, Len Mattiace, Craig Parry and J.L. Lewis.

Spalding has been calmly reminding the industry that despite the recent list of multi-layer ball introductions (most recently, the Titleist Pro V1), Spalding claims to have pioneered the technology.

GETTING A GRIP IN CHINA: Guangzhou, China will be the site of the newest Lamkin Grips plant. The 70,000-square-foot plant is set to open in July. It will employ 250 people, who will make all 64 models of the company's grips. Lamkin, which is based near San Diego, hopes to realize cost savings and manufacturing efficiencies from the move. Lamkin already has a plant in Tijuana, Mexico.
