GOLD CANYON, Ariz. – Wyndham Clark of Greenwood Village, Colo., won the Under Armour/Vicky Hurst
Championship as he surpassed 18 competitors Sunday with a round of 7-under-par 65. He went on to defeat Devon Purser of Clearfield, Utah, on the first playoff hole. In the Girls Division, Emily Tubert earned her first AJGA victory by shooting a 4-under-par 140 total at Supersition Mountain Golf & Country Club.
A stretch of five birdies in six holes set Clark up for his first AJGA victory. He totaled eight birdies on his card, tallying his lone bogey on his final hole. He quickly bounced back with his ninth birdie of the day on the first playoff hole, securing the victory.
“I joined the AJGA four years ago and I’ve come close to winning so many times,” said Clark, who is ranked No. 24 in the Polo Golf Rankings. “Winning has been a big aspiration for me, and it means a lot to finally get there.”
Purser shot 4-under-par 68 to tie Clark at 4-under-par 140 for the tournament. Patrick Sanchez of Mazatlan, Mexico, finished third. Neil Evans of Phoenix, Henry Todd of Trophy Club, Texas, Alex McMahon of Tucson, Ariz., and Jacob Knapp of Costa Mesa, Calif., tied for fourth.
In the Girls Division, Tubert wasted no time as she birdied three of her first six holes on her way to shooting a 69. Strong irons and wedges propelled her down the stretch, as she hit eight greens on the back nine.
“My wedges were really good today,” said Tubert, who has signed with the University of Arkansas. “I kept the ball in play, hit a lot of greens and rolled in some putts. It’s great to be able to win this tournament on Mother’s Day.”
Lindsey Weaver of Scottsdale, Ariz., finished a shot behind in second place and first-round leader Kaira Martin finished third.
