Back-to-back birdies puts Woods in better shape

NEWTON SQUARE, Pa. – Two quick birdies look to have Tiger Woods out of trouble and safely headed towards making the cut.

Granted, he is 1 over with five holes of his second round left, so he can't afford a disaster, but that's what it will take to knock him out early, as the cut looks likely to fall at 4 over.

Woods played the par-4 third hole (his 12th) perfectly, splitting the fairway and then knocking a wedge that nestled 5 feet below the hole, from where he banged it home, ignoring a cell phone that rang as he was about to pull the trigger.
