DUBLIN, Ohio – Woods made it only as far as the third fairway before the horn sounded, suspending play at 3.23 p.m. ET, less than 40 minutes into his round.
He made a confidence-sapping start with a bogey at the par-4 first, where his approach shot found the back bunker, but followed up with a rock-solid par at No. 2.
Some players seemed puzzled by the suspension, because the sun was shining, but the radar revealed a small thunderstorm just north of the Muirfield Village course.
As we know, officials take no chances when there's lightning in the vicinity.
Following a two-hour morning weather delay, there is now no chance the entire field will finish round one on Thursday, even if the current delay proves short.
