Americans Lewis, Lang lead in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Stacy Lewis fired a 6-under 65 to take the joint lead with fellow American Brittany Lang on the second day of the LPGA Malaysia on Friday.

Lewis dropped two shots at the par-4 ninth but made eight birdies for a total of 9-under 133 after two rounds. Lang maintained her momentum at the top after carding a 4-under 67.

“I struggled last week and so it’s nice to just get out there and shoot some good scores,” Lewis said. “And seeing putts going in is always a good thing.

“The golf course is a little easier this year so you have to make birdies and just keep it in the fairways.”

Na Yeon Choi of South Korea and Dewi Claire Schreefel of the Netherlands both shot a 3-under 68 to lie joint third, a stroke adrift of the leaders.

Azahara Munoz of Spain was fifth on 7 under while No. 1-ranked Yani Tseng of Taiwan, Michelle Wie of and Kim In-Kyung of South Korea were a stroke back.

Play was suspended for three hours during the day because of a heavy thunderstorm but all the golfers managed to finish their rounds.

Tseng holed six birdies, but she dropped shots at the fifth and ninth holes to finish with a 4-under 67.

“I feel really happy that I can go home and have a massage, instead of waiting here for a long time,” the five-time major winner said. “And that was a good birdie on 18 to give me 4 under today.”
