Bourdy wins in Hong Kong McIlroy takes money lead

2009 European TourHONG KONG – France’s Gregory Bourdy survived a late challenge from Rory McIlroy to win the Hong Kong Open by two strokes and secure a berth at the European Tour’s year-end championship in Dubai.

Bourdy had four birdies and a bogey in a 3-under 67 that gave him a 19-under 261 total and his third European Tour title. The win moved the Frenchman into the top 60 on the money list, qualifying him for Dubai.

McIlroy shot a 64 but faltered at the end. He was within one shot of Bourdy after an eagle on the 13th and birdies on Nos. 15-16, but missed a short putt on the 17th to fall two back. He did, however, move into the top spot on the tour's Order of Merit entering the final leg of the Race to Dubai.

The 20-year-old from Northern Ireland lost a playoff to Lin Wen-tang in Hong Kong last year.

Dutchman Robert-Jan Derksen (68) and Italy’s Francesco Molinari (64) finished tied for third another stroke back.
