The Charles Schwab Cup Championship will be held at Sonoma Golf Club from 2003-06, with the 2003 played Oct. 23-26. The top-31 money winners on the former Senior Tour qualify.
The Charles Schwab Cup is awarded to the winner of a season-long points-based competition on the Champions Tour. The Cup winner, who gets $1 million, most likely will be crowned at Sonoma. Hale Irwin won in 2002.
The move to Sonoma on Thursday returns the Champions Tour to Northern California. The Transamerica in Napa, Calif.; the Gold Rush Classic in El Dorado Hills, near Sacramento; and the Siebel Classic in Silicon Valley in San Jose were dropped from the most recent tour schedule because of financial problems.
Sonoma Golf Club, 40 miles north of San Francisco, was designed and built in 1928.
