Couples in contention again at Cap Cana

CAP CANA, Dominican Republic – Nick Price and Chip Beck each shot a 6-under 66 for a share of the lead Friday after the first round of the Champions Tour’s $1.6 million Cap Cana Championship.

Both Price and Beck had seven birdies and one bogey in their opening rounds at the 7,176-yard Punta Espada Golf Club.

Fred Couples, who has already won twice on the Champions Tour this season, made an 8-foot eagle putt on the par-5 No. 12 and birdied two other par 5s in his round of 67. Couples was one shot back along with three other players: former Masters champion Larry Mize, Olin Browne and David Peoples.

U.S. Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin was among a group of six who shot 68, including Tom Pernice, Loren Roberts, Bob Gilder, Russ Cochran and former PGA Championship winner Bob Tway.
