Daly to Buy Hometown Course in Arkansas

DARDANELLE, Ark. -- Former Razorback golfer John Daly, a regular on the PGA Tour and winner of two major championships, has bought the golf course in his hometown and plans to upgrade it.
Bay Ridge Boat & Golf Club will be renamed the Lions Den Golf Club. Daly plans to spend about $3 million on the purchase and on extensive renovations, directed by course designer Steve Holden of Maumelle, a personal friend.
'John has always wanted to own this course because he grew up on it,' said Holden, who is to be general manager and director of golf for the new operation. 'It has always been a dream for him and his [late] mother, Lou, for him to own it.'
The course had been run as a club, and members wanted to make improvements, Holden said.
'It takes someone with John's financial ability to do it without the dues being raised,' Holden said.
Daly ranks 37th on the money list this year, with $1,707,387 in winnings.
