Bernhard Langer, who led Europe to victory last month against the United States, has said he is leaning toward stepping down as captain. That would follow the pattern of Seve Ballesteros, Mark James and Sam Torrance, who left after serving once as captain.
'Experience is always a major thing for the captain,' Faldo, a six-time major winner, said Monday in a BBC radio interview. 'I've been there 11 times and have been under a lot of great captains -- Tony Jacklin, Bernard Gallacher, all of them. Everybody has their own style and their character and their own enthusiasm.'
'I've drawn on all of that, and I'll back whatever they decide 100 percent,' added Faldo, who failed to qualify for the European team this year.
Other names being mentioned for the European captaincy include Ian Woosnan, Sandy Lyle and Colin Montgomerie. The 2006 Ryder Cup will be played at the K Club in Ireland.
