USGALEXINGTON, Ky. -- Mina Harigae and Stephany Fleet advanced to the championship of the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links on Friday.

Harigae birdied the three closing holes of her morning quarterfinal match against Stephanie Kono to win on the 19th, then bested Wonjoo Choi 2 and 1 in the semifinal.

Fleet had a pair of 5 and 4 wins -- over Kayla Mortellaro in the quarterfinals and Michelle Shin to reach Saturday's championship match.

'I got the speed of the greens down, finally,' Harigae said. 'I'm really happy that I finally got here to the final. It took me long enough.'

This is the 13th USGA championship for Harigae, a decorated junior golfer from Monterey, Calif., who won the California Women's Amateur at the age of 11. She's headed to Duke in the fall.

After five holes in the semifinal Harigae found herself trailing. But she made a 15-foot birdie putt to win the sixth and square the match. A 35-foot birdie putt on No. 8 gave her the lead.

On the par-5 18th, Harigae hit a wedge to four feet and made a sliding birdie putt to win 2 up.

Fleet was 2 up at the turn before pars won her the 10th and 11th holes. She birdied the par-5 14th when she chipped to within two feet and Shin conceded.

'This afternoon I was all over the place,' Shin said. 'I couldn't make any short putt I had. Every time she needed a putt, she made it.'

Fleet, from DeWitt, Mich., exceeded her own expectations by making it to the title match.

'I think my goal was to make match play,' she said. 'This is my first USGA championship.'

A junior at Eastern Michigan, Fleet had to win a playoff in sectional qualifying to make this championship.

'I'm probably the least technical player you'll ever meet,' Fleet said. 'I don't even check the yardage sometimes. I just hit it.'

The Women's Amateur Public Links is one of 13 national championships conducted by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
