Ishikawa shoots 15-over 85 to open PGA Championship

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. –  Ryo Ishikawa shot his worst round of the year, a 15-over 85, to start the PGA Championship.

Ishikawa put the ball in water six times Thursday. It got so bad the 19-year-old says he quit counting how many times he hit into the water. Ishikawa’s troubles began on his second hole, the par-4 11th, with a tee shot in the water that led to double bogey. He made triple bogey-6 on the 15th and consecutive doubles on the 17th and 18th to make the turn at 10 over par.

Ishikawa settled down on his final nine, making par on his last five holes. It was his worst in three PGA Championship appearances and surpasses the 83 he shot this year at the Japan Golf Tour Championship.
