Korean barbeque on menu for PGA Championship dinner


2010 PGA ChampionshipSHEBOYGAN, Wis. – Y.E. Yang is using his champion’s choice to add a Korean flavor to a traditional annual dinner ahead of the PGA Championships.

Yang, who became the first Asian player to win one of golf’s majors with a three-stroke victory over Tiger Woods at last year’s PGA Championship, has selected popular dishes from his native South Korea for the champions dinner taking place Tuesday in Wisconsin.

The dinner in the village of Kohler will be served in four courses, with the main featuring bulgogi, a marinated barbecued beef entree, and doenjang jjigae, fermented soy bean paste soup. Dessert will include rice cakes made of jujube and fresh ginseng.

Yang consulted with South Korea’s first lady, Korean cuisine expert Kim Yoon-ok, on the menu, according to Cho Hyun-jin, a spokesman for the president’s office in Seoul.

Last year’s dinner was a traditional Irish menu selected by 2008 champion Padraig Harrington. The tournament begins Thursday at Whistling Straits.
