Smith, 77, will be inducted Oct. 30 along with Larry Nelson, Vijay Singh and the late Henry Picard.
'We plugged along and now look at it grow,' Smith said during a news conference at the LPGA Championship. 'I think the girls are playing super, and I'm so proud of the whole organization. And I couldn't be happier than I am right now getting into the World Golf Hall of Fame. Gosh, that's terrific.'
Smith helped found the LPGA Tour in 1950 and served as its president from 1958-60. She won for the first time in the 1954 Fort Wayne Open and her final victory came in 1972 at the Pabst Ladies Classic. Along the way, she captured the Titleholders Championship in 1963 and 1964.
She was recognized during the LPGA's 50th anniversary as one of its top 50 players and teachers.
'This is an incredible gift, particularly at this stage of my life,' Smith said.
