KAPALUA, Hawaii (AP)—Former U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover has withdrawn fromthe season-opening Tournament of Champions after spraining his right knee whilepaddleboarding.
It’s the second straight year a player has had to withdraw after gettinginjured in the ocean. Geoff Ogilvy cut open a finger on a piece of coral lastyear.
Glover was paddleboarding Saturday in the Pacific Ocean when his foot caughtthe side of the board and led to sprained ligaments.
Without Glover, that leaves 27 players in the winners-only field to startthe season. It’s the smallest field since the event moved to Kapalua in 1999.
