McCloskey Tubert in Womens Amateur Publinx final

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Lisa McCloskey and Emily Tubert will play 36 holes for the Women’s Amateur Public Links championship.

McCloskey took a 3-and-2 win over Ellen Mueller in her semifinal match on Friday. Tubert needed 19 holes to oust Sara Grantham. McCloskey, who will be a junior at Southern California, and Tubert, who will enter Arkansas in the fall, will meet Saturday at Notre Dame’s Warren Golf Course.

Tubert took a 1-up lead into the par-4 18th, but bogeyed the final hole. That allowed Grantham, a Mississippi senior, to two-putt for par to square the match.

On the first extra hole, Tubert made a 5-foot putt for par after Grantham missed a 15-footer. Tubert, who qualified fifth from stroke play, needed 19 holes to beat Victoria Sungmin Park to advance from the morning quarterfinal.

McCloskey, who qualified 35th from stroke play, took control of her semifinal by moving 1-up on the 5th. She led 4-up after the 14th.

McCloskey topped Brianna Do 1-up in the quarterfinals. Do squared the match after McCloskey bogeyed the par-5 17th, but McCloskey came back with a birdie on 18 to claim the win.

In Friday’s other quarterfinals, Grantham eliminated U.S. Curtis Cup-member Cydney Clanton, 1-up, and Mueller beat Martina Gavier, 2 and 1.
