LA QUINTA, Calif. – Will Claxton and Daniel Summerhays topped the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament leaderboard at 8-under 64 after the first round Wednesday at PGA West.
The top 25 in the six-round event will earn 2012 PGA Tour cards.
Claxton opened on the Nicklaus Tournament Course, and Summerhays played the TPC Stadium Course.
Vaughn Taylor, William McGirt, Billy Hurley III and Bae Sang-moon were a stroke back. Taylor and McGirt played the Nicklaus Course, and Hurley and Bae opened on the Stadium Course.
David Duval had a 72 on the Stadium Course.
Golf Channel will air the final three rounds on Dec. 3-5. Air times: Saturday, 3-6 PM and 4-6 AM ET. Sunday, 3-6 PM and midnight-3 AM ET. Monday, 3:30-7 PM and midnight-3 AM ET.
