PGA Championship gets big numbers for CBS


2009 PGA ChampionshipNEW YORK ' Y.E. Yangs upset win over Tiger Woods in the PGA Championship was a television hit that even picked up more viewers for an interview with quarterback Michael Vick.
Nielsen Media Research says its overnight measurements of big cities found ratings for the golf tournament up 150 percent over 2008. Woods was injured and didnt play in the tournament last year.
Nielsen and CBS dont yet have an estimate of the audience nationally. In the metered markets, it was the best PGA final round since 2002.
The golf tournament led directly into 60 Minutes, which featured Vicks interview about his prison time for running a dogfighting operation. CBS estimates more than 11 million people saw the news show, which averaged around 8 million for more typical Sundays this summer.
