PGA Junior Championship shortened by rain


PGA of AmericaFORT WAYNE, Ind. – Second-round play at the 35th Junior PGA Championship has been canceled because of rain at the Sycamore Hills Golf Club.

Nearly two inches of rain fell Tuesday on the Jack Nicklaus-designed course in Fort Wayne, Ind. The tournament will be pared down to three rounds after only 54 of the 156 boys and girls made it onto the course. Those scores will be abandoned.

The cut of the top 35 players and ties in the boys’ and girls’ fields will be made after Wednesday’s round.

Justin Thomas of Goshen, Ky., holds a one-stroke lead over Oliver Schniederjans of Powder Springs, Ga. Thomas shot a course-record 7-under 65 on Monday.

On the girls’ side, Kyle Roig of Puerto Rico, and Mariah Stackhouse of Riverdale, Ga., share the lead at 2 under.
