Richardson Wins European Amateur Championship

SKOVDE, Sweden -- Matthew Richardson shot a 4-under-par 68 to win the European Amateur Golf Championship on Saturday, beating fellow Englishman Gary Lockerbie by a stroke.

Richardson, who was third last year, had a 72-hole total of 15-under 273. He made a bogey on the second hole and double bogey on the third, but played nearly flawless golf from the eighth.

'I tried to keep cool after my three first holes. ... I'm really delighted with this win because I came so close last year,' Richardson said.

Lockerbie closed with a 69 and passed third-round leader Eirik Tage Johansen of Norway. Johansen was third at 13 under.
