Singh Daly Withdraw from Tigers Event

2005 Target World ChallengeJohn Daly withdrew Monday from the Target World Challenge because of a broken right hand, the second straight week he has pulled out of a tournament.

Daly had received a sponsor's exemption to play in the 16-man event hosted by Tiger Woods, which has a $5.5 million purse and pays $1.3 million to the winner, the richest payoff in the silly season. Daly was replaced by Skins Game champion Fred Funk.

Vijay Singh and Angel Cabrera also withdrew and were replaced off the world ranking by David Howell and Tim Clark.

It was not clear how Daly injured his hand. A call to his agent, Bud Martin at SFX Sports, was not immediately returned. Daly also missed the Bard Capital Challenge last week in Las Vegas.

Woods is the defending champion of his tournament, which starts Thursday at Sherwood Country Club, and he should be among the few who are rested.

Seven players were coming from halfway around the world - Colin Montgomerie from winning in Hong Kong; Michael Campbell from Australia; and Jim Furyk, Chris DiMarco, Luke Donald, Kenny Perry and Darren Clarke from the Nedbank Challenge in South Africa.

The field was rounded out with Thomas Bjorn, Fred Couples, Padraig Harrington, David Love III and David Toms, playing for the first time since surgery last month to correct a rapid heartbeat.
