Small Benzel in Club Pro Duel


PGA Professional National ChampionshipSUNRIVER, Oregon -- Ryan Benzel and Mike Small shared a one-stroke lead after the second round of the PGA Professional National Championship on Friday.
Benzel, an assistant pro at Seattle Golf Club, shot a 5-under 66 on the par-71 Meadows Golf Course at Sunriver Resort, for a 6-under 137 total. Small, the head coach at the University of Illinois, shot a second-round 4-under 67.
Craig Thomas, head pro at Metropolis Country Club in White Plains, N.Y., was a shot back after his 5-under 66 on the Meadows Course. Jason Panter, assistant professional at Sea Oaks Golf Club in Tuckerton, N.J., was another shot back after a 2-under 70 on the Crosswater Golf Club course.
The final 36 holes will be played on the Crosswater course, with the low 20 scores earning a berth at the 89th PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla., Aug. 6-12.
