KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (AP)' Nathan Smith has won his second U.S. Mid-Amateur title, defeating Tim Spitz 7 and 6 in the event's 36-hole final. Smith took an 8-up lead after the 18 holes on Friday morning and the 2003 champion went on to win by the third-largest margin in Mid-Amateur history. He should be headed to the Masters next April since the winner of this USGA event traditionally gets an invitation to Augusta National. Smith put things away quickly with wins on three of the first four holes. Spitz tried to answer on No. 5 after his approach settled inches from the cup for a birdie. But Smith curled in a 25-foot birdie putt to blunt the charge. Smith closed out the match on the 30th hole, striking his approach to 6 inches of the cup.
