PRATTVILLE, Alabama – The Solheim Cup team members are focusing on Alabama before heading to Ireland.
All 12 U.S. team members – and half of the European team – are competing in the $1.3 million Navistar LPGA Classic starting Thursday. The tournament is played at the 6,607-yard, par-72 Senator Course on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Capitol Hill in suburban Montgomery.
The Americans bound for the Solheim Cup afterward include Cristie Kerr, Paula Creamer and Brittany Lincicome.
Maria Hjorth, a European team member from Sweden, is trying to build on her success in Alabama. She won the Avnet LPGA Classic in Mobile during the spring and won in Prattville in 2007.
Hjorth said it would be nice to fly out of town with some momentum.
Australian Katherine Hull is defending champion.
