RABAT, Morocco – Nick Dougherty of England has hit a 7-under 66 to lead by a stroke on the opening day of the Trophee Hassan II.
Dougherty had an eagle and five birdies on the back nine of the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Rabat.
Six players – Ireland’s Peter Lawrie, Scotland’s Stephen Gallacher, Italy’s Francesco Molinari, Shiv Shankar Prasad Chowrasia of India, Argentina’s Ricardo Gonzalez and Paraguay’s Fabrizio Zanotti – are one shot behind.
The opening two days are being played on two different courses – a longer Red course and a shorter Blue – and in a pro-am format before the professionals play alone on Saturday and Sunday on the Red.
Dougherty and Chowrasia played the Red course on Thursday, with the other pacesetters on the Blue. They switch Friday.
