Trump Golf Empire Heading to Scotland

NEW YORK -- Donald Trump's budding golf empire is headed to the home of golf.

Trump plans to build a golf resort on an 800-acre stretch of sand dunes at Menie Estate in northeast Scotland, he said Friday.

Trump still must get approval to build Trump International Golf Links, which will have two golf courses, a five-star hotel, a golf academy and a turf grass research center.

The courses near Aberdeen will be designed by Tom Fazio II, the nephew of renowned American golf architect Tom Fazio.

'Our goal is to create the greatest links golf courses in Scotland as part of a golf development that will become the finest in Europe, if not the world,' said Ashley Cooper, executive vice president for The Trump Organization.

Cooper said the course alone would cost more than $18 million to build, and that the project would top $500 million.

Trump already has five other golf properties -- three of them called Trump National Golf Club in New York, New Jersey and southern California. Trump International in West Palm Beach, Fla., is home of the LPGA Tour's season-ending ADT Championship. The other is Trump International Golf Club in the Grenadines.
