PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – The 110th U.S. Open is underway, under clearing skies at Pebble Beach.
Deane Pappas of South Africa hit a hybrid into the right edge of the rough on the first fairway Thursday morning to mark the official beginning of the tournament.
Early clouds were giving way to blue skies above one of America’s most scenic golf courses. The forecast for the first round was for sunny skies with a high of around 60 and north winds that could dry out the course.
Looking for the second leg of the Grand Slam, Masters champion Phil Mickelson was set to tee off at 8:06 a.m., local time.
Tiger Woods has an afternoon tee time at the course where he shot 12-under par to win the Open by 15 strokes back in 2000.
