Amid showers that forced suspension of play with 45 players needing to complete their rounds Friday morning, Thaworn led the way with consistent putting that produced six birdies, including a 30-footer on the 15th hole.
'We're playing on a tough course this week and the rain made it so much harder this morning. I didn't have the best of starts but I came back nicely,' said Thaworn, Asia's No. 1 player.
Li Chao, from Beijing, was one stroke back at 2-under 70 -- a bogey on the 18th hole cost him a share of the lead. Top draw Zhang Lianwei of China withdrew with the flu before his round.
India's Digvijay Singh was 2 under when his round ended after 12 holes.
