Update on Big Break Alumni

RSS

Several Big Break alumni are finally getting the big break they hoped for when auditions for their seasons were first held…

This past Sunday, Rosie Jones, U.S. Solheim Cup team captain, surprised everyone when she picked rookie, Ryann O’Toole, former Big Break Sandals Resorts player, as one of her 2011 captain’s picks.  O’Toole joins a team of seasoned professionals that include Cristie Kerr; Christina Kim; Morgan Pressel;  Stacy Lewis;  Angela Stanford;  Paula Creamer;  Michelle Wie; Brittany Lincicome;  Brittany Lang; Juli Inkster, and Vicky Hurst, Jones’ second captain’s pick, to represent the United States at the Solheim Cup next month in Ireland.

O’Toole’s spunk, drive and determination to make it as an LPGA professional really played a hand in her landing a spot on the U.S. Solheim Cup team.  Read Randall Mell’s article here on how O’Toole made sure Cristie Kerr, Suzann Pettersen and Natalie Gulbis knew who she was so they could tell Rosie Jones about her.

James Nitties, alumnus of Big Break Mesquite, is on his way toward playing on the PGA TOUR.  This past weekend, Nitties won his first Nationwide Tour event, the Midwest Classic.  Not only is it a proud moment for him to win his first Tour event, but he is now currently No. 12 on the money list.  The Top 25 at the end of the season earn playing privileges on the PGA TOUR the following season.

Finally, the PGA TOUR Playoffs start this week with The Barclays.  Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey, a player on Big Break IV: USA vs. Europe and winner of Big Break VII: Reunion, will be among the players in this season’s Top 125 field. Last weekend, Gainey finished third in the Wyndham Championship, placing him 30th on the FedExCup points list.
