Change of Mind Els Back In

2007- WGC-AccentureIt started out as a rumor early in the week. It gained in currency Tuesday when officials of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship said they were hearing Ernie Els wanted to play in their event next week.
Els agent, Chubby Chandler, confirmed that interest to GOLF CHANNEL Wednesday. And Chandler made it official Thursday.
Well be entering Ernie, Chandler told GOLF CHANNEL by phone from London Thursday morning where he was with Els. Hell be flying across Sunday morning. And were excited about it.
The deadline to commit for the event is 5 p.m. EST Friday.
Els decision to play came as a surprise mostly because it was not a well-kept secret that he didnt like the venue'The Gallery at Dove Mountain'near Tucson. Last year Els lost in the first round at that course in this same event.
But Chandler said Els has been feeling good about his game this week while practicing at his Wentworth London home.
Els is a seven-time winner of the World Match Play at Wentworth, but has a career record of 6-8 in the WGC-Match Play, including three first-round losses each of his last three appearances.
Brackets will be finalized and released by the PGA TOUR Sunday.
Chandler also said that Els' schedule leading up to The Masters in early April will depends, in part, on how he does in Tucson. He said if Els advances a long way into the event, he will probably skip the PODS Championship in early March. Els is also expected to miss the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Chandler said Els will play at the Shell Houston Open the week before Augusta only if the updated weather forecast in Houston is good for that week.
'Golf Central' will have more on the story in tonight's edition.
