Golden Chances in the Golden State

The Buy.Com Tour arrives in the Golden State for this week's State Farm Open at the 6,972-yard par-72 Empire Lakes Golf Club in Cucamonga, Calif.
The players on the Buy.Com have gone into high alert, as the Tour Championship looms right around the corner in late October, with everyone hoping to secure a spot in the event.
The champion of last week's Boise Open, Jason Gore, joined Arron Oberholser, Patrick Moore and Cliff Kresge as the tour's fourth two-time winner in the 2002 season.
Gore, who has now won two in a row, will be looking to capture an unprecedented third straight. With another victory, by Gore or any of the other three, it would bring the much-sought-after Battlefield Promotion, giving the Buy.Com player immediate and automatic entry onto the PGA Tour.
Four other players have previously gained the coveted promotion - Chris Smith in 1997, and Heath Slocum, Chad Campbell and Pat Bates in 2001.
Omar Uresti currently holds 15th place on the all-important money list, a mere $1,249 ahead of Jason Caron, who is in the 16th spot.
The top 15 on the money list also gain membership to the PGA Tour for 2003.
The purse this week is $450,000, with $81,000 going to the winner.
