NCAA Championship resumes after long delay

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The first round of the men’s NCAA Championship resumed at 2 p.m. local time Friday after a nearly five-hour weather delay.

The first round of stroke play at Prairie Dunes was supposed to begin at 7 a.m. local, but was pushed back 40 minutes because of lightning in the area.

Twelve teams were able to begin their opening round when play was suspended for a second time because of inclement weather. Florida State, Texas A&M and Texas were furthest along, through six holes.

About 1.2 inches of rain fell at Prairie Dunes, but the links-style course drains well because of its sand base.

If there are no more delays, the afternoon wave will begin around 6 p.m. local. Sunset is 8:48 p.m., but if it remains cloudy, sufficient light will run out earlier.
