Backweight all your clubs with Boccieri's Secret Grip

RSS

Founded in 2005, Boccieri Golf first made waves in the golf industry with the introduction of its popular Heavy Putter, which incorporated a backweighting system under the grip that was designed to improve body mechanics and the consistency of the stroke.

More recently, the Scottsdale, Ariz.,-based equipment maker has been touting its Secret Grip, which features a patented technology that enables golfers to backweight all the clubs in their bags.

According to company founder Steve Boccieri, Secret Grip employs a tungsten insert in the butt-end of the grip and also a proprietary rubber compound that is 40 percent heavier than properties used in standard grips. He says the added weight raises a club’s balance point, promoting in the process consistently crisper contact and better distance and control.

“Comprehensive research and testing proves that backweighting allows golfers to maximize on-course performance,” Boccieri explains, adding that company spokesman Jack Nicklaus used backweighted clubs in winning 73 PGA Tour titles and all 18 of his professional major championships.

Boccieri says that Secret Grip is made to be installed quickly and affordably on clubs from all golf equipment manufacturers. A version for metals and irons was introduced at the 2013 PGA Merchandise Show, and this summer the company released a Secret Grip for putters. He says that the heavier weight of that grip raises the balance point of the flat stick and forces golfers to utilize their larger, more stable muscles for a more repeatable and reliable putting stroke.
