Former Masters champ Charl Schwartzel has switched equipment companies ahead of the 145th Open, opting to sign with PXG.
Currently ranked No. 21 in the world, Schwartzel has been a longtime user of Nike golf equipment, including earlier this year when he won the Valspar Championship in a playoff over Bill Haas. He finished T-7 at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in his most recent start.
The move was announced by PXG founder Bob Parsons Tuesday on Twitter:
Schwartzel becomes the latest marquee name to sign with the burgeoning equipment company, joining fellow Masters champ Zach Johnson, former FedEx Cup winner Billy Horschel and James Hahn, who won earlier this year at the Wells Fargo Championship. He is the first player to switch to PXG in the middle of the year.
Schwartzel will begin play at 7:53 a.m. ET Thursday at Royal Troon alongside Paul Casey and Kevin Na.
