Woods sports fan-designed shoes at Honda Classic

Tiger Woods doesn't just talk the talk when it comes to his equipment and apparel, in the first round of the Honda Classic, he walked the walk.

Woods was sporting some patriotic footwear during his opening 71 at the PGA National Champion Course - a pair of shoes designed by fan Dane Thompson (@DaneJThompson), chosen as the winner out of thousands of submissions in the TW ’14 NIKEiD contest by the 14-time major champ himself.

"When I saw the contest and that it was for Tiger Woods, I knew I had to come up with something fitting," Thompson told GolfChannel.com in an email last month. "The patriotic theme kind of hit home when thinking about specific events affecting Tiger coming up in 2014. The shoe itself didn't take to long to design once I had the idea. It was just making sure the colors and features fit together."

Thompson, a 23-year-old University of Northern Iowa grad who serves as general manager at restaurant and bar in Cedar Falls, was inspired to incorporate patriotic colors to cheer on team USA in the Winter Olympics and the 2014 Ryder Cup, as well as in support of Tiger at the 2014 U.S Open. His design boasts a white leather upper, blue midsole and red Nike Swoosh, Nike Flywire and laces.

The TW’14 is the first Nike Golf shoe to become available for customization on NIKEiD.
