There are few feelings in this world better than wearing a new, comfortable pair of shoes, but one of them would most certainly be golfing in a new, comfortable pair of shoes.
And when it comes to that experience, it doesn't get much better than the Ecco Biom Hybrid 2. The original Ecco Biom Hybrids set the standard, but its successor raises the bar even higher.
"We basically just tried not to mess it up too much," Jesper Thuen, Ecco's Global Marketing Manager, said during January's PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Fla., about the differences between the models. "We just made a few changes that we think could benefit all golfers."
Well ... mission accomplished.
Ecco has known they've been on to something with their spikeless, hybrid golf shoes since they started making them in 2010. In fact, 90 percent of their sales are now hybrids, compared to traditional cleats, and looking at their newest product, it's easy to see why.
The first thing that grabs the eye are the colors. They aren't "Rickie Fowler bright," but if you want to make a statement, these will do the job just fine. The Biom Hybrid 2s come in concrete and royal, black and brick, camel and fanta, white and fire and a simple white and black. With every color combination featuring metallic, reflective accents on the outside of the toe and the heel. They also have a two-toned sole, which not only looks cool, but is actually a patented design to help with grip.
But as stated above, it's the comfort that is the main selling point of these shoes. Thanks to a silicone inlay, the Biom Hybrid 2s feel like they mold to your feet when you slip them on, ensuring that nothing will move around inside the shoe. And with a new outsole that is actually two parts, you feel the softness on the inside of the shoe while the outside is actually made of a much tougher material to protect you from the elements.
So they're colorful and comfortable, but will it help your game? The answer, simply, is yes. The shoe's 800 traction angles will make you feel closer to the ground and stable all the way through your swing, essentially eliminating, "my feet slipped," as an acceptable excuse by putting these on.
"The further away you are from the ground, the less balance you have," said Thuen. "We've removed a little bit of material in he mid-sole, to reduce weight, and we've put an internal shank piece in to improve stability, but it's less material so you are actually closer to the ground."
And, needless to say, since they are spikeless, comfortable, fashionable and actually 20 percent lighter than its predecessor, the Biom Hybrid 2 is the perfect shoe to wear to the course, the 19th hole and even to whatever errands you have to run afterwards.
The Ecco Biom Hybrid 2 shoes retail for $195.00. For more information or to make a purchase, check them out here.
