Expert Picks: 2014 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational

This week marks the 38th event of the 2013-14 PGA Tour season, as players head to Firestone Country Club for the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. Each week, a panel of experts will offer up their picks from four groups of players, based on Golf Channel's fantasy game, Fantasy Challenge. We will also keep track of their scores and standings. The panel includes: senior writers Rex Hoggard, Randall Mell and Jason Sobel; contributors John Hawkins and John Antonini; editorial director Jay Coffin; 'Morning Drive' host Gary Williams; staff writer Ryan Lavner and defending fantasy champion Charlie Rymer.

Jason Sobel

Group 1: Adam Scott: Three years ago, Steve Williams got more attention for the win than Scott himself. That’ll change this week.

Group 2: Keegan Bradley: He loves Firestone and desperately wants to make the Ryder Cup team. Gotta like that motivational combo.

Group 3: Graham DeLaet: Still riding the high of a top-10 finish in his native Canada, expect continued strong play back in the U.S.

Group 4: Ernie Els: Gotta love the WGCs, where you can get a four-time major-winning HOFer coming off a top-10 all the way down in Group 4.

Will Gray

Group 1: Rory McIlroy: I may be one event late, but I"ll take my chances. Rory is riding high after an Open win and hasn't finished outside the top 25 on the PGA Tour all year long.

Group 2: Jim Furyk: Remains positive despite another dose of heartbreak Sunday in Montreal. It helps that the veteran has nine top-10 finishes at Firestone, including three in the past four years.

Group 3: Brendon Todd: One of the hottest players around, Todd is making one final push to make his first Ryder Cup team. An all-world short game should give him a fighting chance to do just that over the next two weeks.

Group 4: Louis Oosthuizen: He may have fallen a bit in the rankings, but Oosthuizen still has one of the sweetest swings around and has cracked the top 10 in two of three career appearances in Akron.
