Expert Picks: 2015 Valero Texas Open

RSS

This week marks the 20th event of the 2014-15 PGA Tour season, as the Tour heads to Texas for the Valero Texas Open. Each week, a panel of experts will offer up their picks from four groups of players, based on Golf Channel's fantasy game, Fantasy Challenge. We will also keep track of their scores and standings. The panel includes: senior writers Rex Hoggard, Randall Mell and Jason Sobel; editorial director Jay Coffin; associate editor Will Gray; 'Morning Drive' host Gary Williams; host Charlie Rymer and defending fantasy champion Ryan Lavner.

Rex Hoggard

Group 1: Dustin Johnson: Since he returned from his PGA Tour hiatus, Johnson has finished first, second and tied for fourth place, and while this week's layout will require more precision than power, he's still the player to beat.

Group 2: Kevin Na: He quietly had one of the best Florida swings on Tour, finishing T-9 (WGC-Cadillac Championship), T-10 (Valspar Championship) and T-6 (Arnold Palmer Invitational)

Group 3: Kiradech Aphibarnrat: His tie for sixth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational earned him a spot in this week's field, and may have opened the door to the ultimate goal - PGA Tour membership.

Group 4: John Peterson: In his sophomore turn on Tour, Peterson has produced veteran consistency, making the cut in 11 of his 12 starts this season.

Will Gray

Group 1: Jim Furyk: Furyk has remained Mr. Consistent this season, and his two trips to TPC San Antonio have both netted top-10 results. Expect him to add to that haul this week.

Group 2: Ryan Palmer: The Texan has six top-25 finishes in seven starts this season, highlighted by his runner-up in Phoenix. He finished T-15 in San Antonio two years ago.

Group 3: Martin Laird: The 2013 champ tied for ninth in San Antonio in 2011 and is in the midst of another strong season, with three top-10s and five top-25s in nine starts.

Group 4: Martin Flores: Flores has a pair of top-25 finishes in his last three starts, and he has compiled a record of three straight top-25 finishes at TPC San Antonio.
