Expert picks: Ricoh Women's British Open

RSS

The LPGA Tour heads to historic St. Andrews this week for the Ricoh Women's British Open. Each week, a panel of experts will offer up their picks from four groups of players, based on Golf Channel's fantasy game, Fantasy Challenge. We will also keep track of their scores and standings. The panel includes: senior writers Rex Hoggard, Randall Mell and Jason Sobel; contributors John Hawkins and Win McMurry; editorial director Jay Coffin; 'Morning Drive' host Gary Williams and staff writer Ryan Lavner. They are joined by former 'Saturday Night Live' star Norm Macdonald, who will serve as a celebrity guest.

Rex Hoggard

Group 1: Inbee Park: Because there is not a better place to make a historical statement then St. Andrews and of all the things the world No. 1 does well it is her lag putting that makes her an easy favorite this week.

Group 2: In-Kyung Kim: She finished second at the LPGA’s last major (U.S. Women’s Open) and has the game and demeanor for a Grand Slam test.

Group 3: Sakura Yokomine: A regular on the LPGA of Japan she has climbed to 46th in the Rolex World Ranking and may surprise some this week in Scotland.

Group 4: Laura Davies: Veteran hasn’t played her best golf this season, but she still bombs the ball (she’s 20th on tour in driving distance) and the Englishwoman qualifies as a sentimental favorite.

Jason Sobel

Group 1: Inbee Park: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me three times … and that’s why I’m in last place in this thing.

Group 2: Catriona Matthew: Buoyed by the home crowd, expect another big week for the Scotland native.

Group 3: Jodi Ewart Shadoff: Seems to play her best golf when the winning score is closer to par, which should be the case this week.

Group 4: Juli Inkster: Experience means everything at St. Andrews and Inkster comes to the Old Course armed with plenty of it.
