Mahan working with swing guru Roe on short game

One of the game’s best ball strikers took a step last week at the U.S. Open to shore up his occasionally suspect short game.

Hunter Mahan, long considered one of the PGA Tour’s best shot-makers, began working with European Tour player Mark Roe at The Olympic Club.

Roe and Mahan first talked in April at the Masters, but didn’t formally begin working together until June 10 in San Francisco. Justin Rose credited Roe, the emerging swing guru, following his victory at the 2011 BMW Championship

Mahan’s swing coach Sean Foley suggested he meet with Roe, and despite Mahan’s tie for 38th at the U.S. Open, he was encouraged by his work with the Englishman.
